Financial Planning in the Decades Before Retirement

A goal without a plan is just a wish. This is especially true with the financial decisions that shape our daily lives and build our futures. Our grandparents (and even some of our parents) could work their way through college and spend their lives with one company until retiring with a pension and retirement healthcare – benefits that are now nearly unheard of in the private sector. The new reality of work means changing jobs more frequently, freelance and small business opportunities, and having a hands-on, activist approach to our career trajectories – and our financial lives. Between student loans, rising home prices, high living costs, college tuition, and the shift from pensions to 401(k) plans, planning is necessary for both short- and long-term decisions. We have more flexibility than ever, but it’s easy for the details to get overwhelming. Very few of us enjoying reviewing budgets, projections, and fine print in our spare time and it’s often easier to assume everything is going “well enough” - letting any shortfall be an issue for our future selves.

When it comes to planning, that first step - faced with a blank slate and a long list of things we know we need to do - is the hardest part. At Athena Wealth Strategies, we work with you as a guide and a partner to get from hopes and dreams to a strategy and road map so that you can understand where you’re going and know you’re taking the actions that lead towards where you want to be. We are here to build a plan with you based on your life and your values and to instill faith, not fear, into your financial future.
