Q. Why did you get started in this field?

As a child, I started my own businesses from lemonade stands to selling flowers to earn money. I always valued a dollar as my family did not have much and my parents focus was having a roof over our heads and food on the table. I saw them work so hard for so little and sometimes it was not enough. My father being an immigrant did not understand the educational system so school was not a priority for our family and the dream of going to college was just that, a dream. However, I decided to make that leap and go to community college. My passion for savings developed when I had to put myself through school by working two to three jobs at one time. I worked extremely hard and transferred to Notre Dame de Namur University with the highest academic scholarship one could earn. I loved two subjects which was personal finance and forensic science and my heart knew that I wanted to help people feel confident about their finances. That is what lead me to be a financial planner and create Athena Wealth Strategies.

Q. What approach do you take in working with clients?

I work on a project and fee basis to bring a high value, client-centric experience to my clients so they can focus on building wealth, planning for the future, protecting their loved ones, and accomplishing short and long term goals. I developed the “Planning Process” to provide a clear vision of what a client can expect when working with us.

Q. What unique attributes do you bring to your clients?

I love puzzles and my love of forensics allows me to take a deep dive into a client’s financial situation. Although we have sophisticated, state of the art software, the value I bring to clients is my process and delivery. I have a gift that I share with each of my clients and that is the ability to identify what truly matters most to them though the “Discovery Experience” which is the first step of our planning process. Our clients receive that gift in the form of the “Discovery Experience Summary” to help them clearly define where they are and our commitment to help them achieve their goals.

Q. How would you describe financial planning to a prospective client?

Financial planning starts with a discovery of your fears, values, and goals and all those parts are the foundation of your financial plan. Financial planning is an experience that you go through to clarify where you currently are, evaluate options to get you to where you need to go, implement the right strategies for you, and protecting that plan so it does not get derailed if something goes wrong. Financial planning is a process and making sure you have a process in place to allow you to adjust your plan consistently is just as important as the initial plan itself. Our commitment to you is to focus on the ongoing process of your plan.

Q. What do you like to do in your free time?

I am married with two little boys who are active and keep me busy. I have served as the PTA Fundraising Chair and organize the annual walk-a-thon for Cipriani Elementary School. We are a baseball family and you can catch us on the field on the weekends. My husband, Brian, is a Belmont native so we get to see our boys raised in the town he grew up in and play on the fields he played. As team mom, I get to be very involved in what they do. Health is very important to me and taking care of me is just as important as taking care of the family so you will also catch me cycling or walking a 5K.
